Over the years we have built an inexhaustible list of hot fishing spots and we stay in tune with which one is holding what. Depending on the season, we use different tactics to achieve success. Bottom fishing for reef fish and trolling for pelagic fish are the basic methods to bring those sea treasures to the boat. Reef fish are plentiful, and if you want to pull a monster off the bottom, we can do it anytime. Grouper, snapper, amberjack, almaco jack, banded rudder fish, and triggerfish are a few of our favorite catches. In late March and early April, the Cobia will lead the pelagic invasion into our waters. By late spring, the king mackerel and mahi mahi will have showed up in force and will remain through November. If you want to hear those reels screaming, king mackerel will make it happen. Late summer through the fall, we have blackfin tuna busting off our coast. Sharks are a jealous sort and always want to have some show time too. Inevitably, they show their prowess by taking a bite of the fat snapper on your line, leaving you only with only a head and a story to tell. The Captain and Crew will be ready and waiting to greet you at your arrival to the dock. Our vessel, the Respite, will be ready and all gear rigged for a day of fishing fun. On most of our deep sea fishing charters, we will start out by catching live bait (cigar minnows, herring, and hardtails). Using sabiki rigs, you can catch multiple fish at once! This is always an exhilarating time, everyone bringing up fish after fish. Kids and adults alike love the quick action. Catching bait is a fun way to warm up your arms for the day of fishing to come. It usually takes 15-45 mins to get the number of live baits necessary for a great day on the water. If you would rather purchase your live bait, you have the option. We can give the bait boat a call. You can purchase an adequate amount of bait for $20-$60. After the excitement of bait catching, take a rest while we head off-shore to where the big action begins. Upon arrival to the fishing spot, we’ll have a quick tutorial of how to operate the fishing rods and get your lines in the water. When we are bottom fishing, the action will likely start within seconds of the first line hitting the bottom. Hold on tight and get ready for the strike! While trolling can sometimes take a little patience, the payoff is more than worth the wait. The first hit will send adrenaline through even the most experienced fishermen’s veins. The thrill of fighting the big one and getting that baby up to the boat will make time fly by. Don’t forget to snap a picture here and there. After a successful day of fishing fun, you can sit back and enjoy the view on the way back to shore. Keep a watchful eye, there are always dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, and flying fish breaking the surface to say hello. Once back in, we will fillet and package your catch.
